Hope Unleashed By... Week #3 By Timothy Moore
Romans 5:1-5 Mark 15:37-38 Hebrews 4:16
Exposition = Explaining a Bible text in depth, correctly, and with clarity.
Verse 1 “Therefore, since we have been justified…” Justified - Δικαιωθέντες - Dikaiothentes = 'to be legally cleared of all charges'
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith…” Faith - πίστεως - pisteose = entrust, put confidence in, put full weight on.
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…”
Where do we place that faith? The Lord Jesus Christ
- We are legally cleared of all charges against God because of our sins.
- We have peace with God. εἰρήνην - eiraynayn = A Tranquil Unity
When we entrust ourselves to Christ and believe in his accomplishments for us, we are legally cleared of all charges related to our personal sin and joined together with God our Father in tranquil relationship.
Verse 2 “through whom we have gained access…” access - προσαγωγὴν - prosagogane = a continual audience, usually with a dignitary (ruler/King).
“...we have gained access by faith into this grace…” Grace - χάριν - undeserved privilege (more than can be deserved)
Mercy is not getting what you deserve. Grace is getting more than you could ever possibly deserve.
We exercise faith in Christ and immediately receive the grace of God in the form of forgiveness of sins, continual access to God in prayer, eternal life with God, and the potential of abundant and joy-filled life here on earth.
You can come into His presence and receive all the benefits and blessings of the abundant and joy-filled life.
Tim Keller: "The secret to freedom from enslaving patterns of sin is worship. You need worship. You need great worship. You need weeping worship. You need glorious worship. You need to sense God’s greatness and to be moved it — moved to tears and moved to laughter — moved by who God is and what he has done for you."
Devotional life is leaning into the access, acceptance, and grace of God by…
- An intentional time focused on His continual presence.
- Looking into His word and believing the promises.
- Speaking and listening (good communication) prayer.
